it’s because they get agitated from questioning their worldview. there’s a distinct feeling in the pit of their stomach that tells them to stop reading. sometimes you can tell because they’ll dismiss an argument out of hand or they’ll say “read a book” or “i have better things to do than this”. i know because i used to be a shitlib and i had to learn to push past that feeling before i could be a marxist. anyway they can’t ever learn anything about us until they learn to ignore that feeling when they have to

It didn’t outright state that the CCP disappeared him but that’s the conclusion they clearly wanted you to reach

In the future, we should be better and try to have a legitimate discussion. I think it would be nice if we instead said something like, “Gee, I hadn’t thought about it that way! I guess you might be right, and if I imagine that China has executed any given person hard enough, it becomes true!” or something along those lines.

I don’t get why these people can’t change their views once presented with evidence that contradicts their worldview. I used to think Tank Man turned into a pancake, then I saw the full video and read lots of articles from several perspectives, read on-the-ground reports, etc. I’m not denying it was a tragic event but I’m also not going to sit here and say “CCP bad!” for a few reasons:
- People are rarely purely “good” or “bad”
- Sames goes for nations
- The situation was more complicated than American History lessons would lead you to believe
- Governments can make mistakes and still be worthy of support
