Had some fun with this. Rules:

  1. When a tankie post comes up, post a legitimate, fair argument. Do not argue in bad faith. No matter how nasty the post may be. Legitimately combat the disinformation there by going into their bubble and posting a sane response.
  2. Watch the responses come in. Especially if the post is on the tankie triad.
  3. Don’t feed the trolls. Don’t respond to anything, unless there is actually a legitimate attempt to have a legitimate discussion. Otherwise, start a game of tankie bingo to help prevent yourself from responding to the madness.

Suggestions for expansion welcome.

Having an objective source of truth undoes their way of doing things, so they have to dismiss anything from Wikipedia out of hand. As is tradition, their way of doing that is to assign it an insulting nickname so that anyone who brings it up is subject to bullying.

Youseall will pry NATO pedia from my cold dead fingers. But I’d never describe it as “objective source of truth”. That’s not even how Wikipedia describes itself. I didn’t know anybody would think of it this way.

Crit taken, it’s worth admitting there were many deaths elsewhere, but there must be some importance in showing that libs don’t know the most basic shit about what they’re arguing.

Yeah, it shouldn’t be used as a “gotcha” but is really useful for libs who have started questioning their understanding of the event. Getting them to thinking about how they were taught about it, and how so much information is fabricated and so much information is left out, get them to start really thinking about the “why” their western official story of the event is so full of holes even western officials at the time weren’t saying anything like it.

It’s relevant in this case because the tanks in the tank man picture were leaving Tiananmen Square and the whole event here is a reaction to a thread where some user kept insisting the tanks must have either killed tank man, some other protesters, or tank man himself was executed. It’s definitely useful to point out how this doesn’t line up at all with any historical account of the event, even if it means being a bit pedantic about where the actual killings took place.

I agree that sometimes it can be unhelpful if fellow travelers say inaccurate or dishonest things just for effect, though.

God, my teenage self wishes they were. So many goddamn assignments where I had to write what the idiot liberals running the school wanted to read, not what was actually true.
