What do you think of an option to ban politics from the feed on account registration like this:
Effectively, when you click “no politics”, it should block the !news@lemmy.world, !politics@lemmy.world, !politicalmemes@lemmy.world, !pravda_news@news.abolish.capital communities and such for the newly registered user.
It would help clear up the feed and be more attractive to new users. Maybe this could even be the default view when you’re not logged in.
what kills me is you can already block comms and instances. there should be an option when you sign up to block .world tho cause they’re annoying

Doing it on hexbear would only show like chat, badposting, trans stuff, and the furry comm lol

Even
jokes are political.
Lock the account to c/badposting only until they change it. Seems like the most ROI on humor for the effort. Or a singular invisible thread that has some mandatory reading and subsequent quiz if you press the button.
We should implement this, and if you select it you only get the latest cocomelon videos in your feed.
I think it should forkbomb your pc
I can kind of sympathize with this person. In a lib environment, all the Trump and Musk posting is like an impotent hate cult about the dang cheeto, etc. etc. There’s no idea about how to make a better world, just endless later night talkshow hosts making epic denunciations over and over without ever saying something new. It’s emotional masochism to just stew in that.
I think it would be good to try to meet someone like this where they are and show them that you can engage with politics in a healthier way if you aren’t a miserable lib who acts like a hundred trillion clapbacks are the way to defeat fascism.
yeah slop is my favorite community and all but i still can’t get past the first half of the first page of reddit rall. it makes me want to throw up
“i don’t want to hear about politics even though it will affect 100% of my life somehow” lmao

No politics! Just wholesome nuclear family propaganda, tech with no evil use cases, normative liberal reactionary memes, and landscape photos of stolen land!
Double fun the image is for piefed not lemmy 🙃
then they just need to relabel the block button the ‘independent thought alarm’ and it will be the perfect echochamber
If they downvote you enough, you get an automatic tag next to your username, indicating you’re a troublemaker.
Before long I’m sure they will do the same if from the wrong instances

11·6 hours agoI mean… with the shit piefed already has it’s not impossible that will happen.
I was looking at the code an hour ago, and… I saw some “reply_is_stupid” function, and it wouldn’t add the comment if that was true. Considering it’s made because of the “tankies,” the amount of ““authoritarianism”” in it is surprising. Lemmy doesn’t just drop your comment if it doesn’t like it.

No it’s okay when they do it because it is used against the untermenschen who want radical things like Healthcare, infrastructure, housing and education paid for/a human right
The tankies are forcing them to act authoritarian! It’s the tankies fault, with their horrible þ and their hate for Chuck Shumer, our only hope!
They previously had code which would replace ‘þ’ with ‘th’ because of a single lemmy user. The developers are incredibly petty.
Is there even a reason they wanted that/used it.?
I think it was just a futile effort to poison AI scrapers.

10·6 hours agoI see, they removed it just 13 hours ago, but yeah they are petty.

Incredable stuff.
My interpretation was “could you add this shitty feature that piefed has to lemmy?” but that initially tripped me up too.
Wait it’s a real thing?? Thought was just a mock up
I haven’t actually registered for any piefed accounts, but yes
Wow. I want to know what it would actually filter now but unsure if I really want to dig through the code to find out
Critical support for a “no politics” filter that just gives you a 100% blank feed.
That one got me

Maybe this could even be the default view when you’re not logged in.
maybe every time you visit the site it could reach out and hug you and stroke your hair and tell you you’re special and good and right about everything and no one in the world disagrees with you or dislikes your opinions or
That’s how I feel logging in to hexbear

we give the best bear hugs here folks, many people are saying it!
“Who says that though?”
“It’s called Hexbear. It’s in the name.”

please don’t make me question all the chauvinist fairy tales I built my worldview around! if I’m not part of an innately superior west then I’m just a loser!!!1!
If they don’t want to hear about politics, why aren’t they back on reddit?
i thought .world is reddit?
Because Spaz is a greedy worm and it’s full of tankies!
what i don’t get is how this would be beneficial… politics is like half of the things we discuss here in both lib and left spaces? Also being the default view is going to suck if you want to browse Lemmy without an account. You can always block politics with Lemmy’s community and instance account blocking feature, which should be taught anyway so you can pick and choose what exactly should go.
I was going to comment it in the original post, but I didn’t think about it much until now…
Politics is all im here for on lemmy. If I just wanna talk hobby stuff I go on reddit tbh.
