  • I think the issue here really is that most Amerikkkans, libs especially, white libs especially frfr, are unwilling to die for anything. Truly, I believe very few of them would lay down their lives for their own family, either biological or chosen.

Nonviolent protest is very low risk, and thus very low reward. Any other form of protest is too high risk for these people. Most of them have likely never been confronted with their own mortality, and very few have likely been subject to true state violence. Moreover, they, up until very recently, almost refuse to believe state violence exists.

I’ve mentioned before around here that I spent a lot of time in various juvenile institutions. As a young 18/19-somethin’ and off paper for the first time in my life, I got a job in a very white, liberal community and eventually moved there. When I would explain to people there what I experienced as a child and teen they literally COULD NOT BELIEVE my experience, and several accused me of lying or exaggerating. Specifically it was a lot of the older, 40+ crowd that accused me of lying.

I truly believe shit has to get REAL BAD for almost EVERYONE before any real change can happen. And I mean it needs to get life threateningly bad for the majority of the working class. As long as they can go home to relative comfort, we’re all fucked.

  • I know we’re in badposting but I fucking love food too much to be badposting rn. If we’re only considering Europe then, as an avid mushroom hunter, and thus, mushroom cook, I have to agree. My cooking tends to skew Italian and French, though, many species are often better served with a more Central European flair.

Species such as cantharellus, craterellus, Morchella, and pleurotus typically get a French or Italian treatment in my kitchen, while agaricus, cerioporus, and hydnum often find themselves in more Polish, Czech, or Hungarian dishes. The more versatile (imo) boletus, grifola, and Laetiporus species find themselves all over the continent. Hericium and hypomyces lactiflorum especially, though, get a decidedly New England treatment in my house… mmmm… lobster mushroom roll…

As you can tell, I’m both hungry and love talkin food n fungi.

  • It’s typically “crackpot theory” not crackpipe, and one could argue that “crackpot” is at least as harmful as the word “crazy” if you subscribe to the belief that the word “crazy” is ableist.

Both “cracked” and “crazed” share a similar origin in that they initially referred to an item, such as a pot, which was “cracked” or “crazed”, which became a pejorative for someone who is mentally unwell. Both terms have transcended their pejorative statuses and have become colloquial terms used in common conversation.

As another user pointed out, “cracker” refers to a whip-cracker. Crack is also a form of smokeable cocaine, so it’s easy to see how one could make this mistake!

  • Yes. That’s absolutely fair. Just yesterday I commented that, as a rule, I don’t talk about my offline actions/organizing online.

I do think OP is on to something, though. I feel like even pointing people in the direction of Food Not Bombs or telling folks to just look at community bulletin boards (lots of organizing around me still happens by way of physical bulletin boards, posters on light poles, etc.), or even like… “hang out at your local crusty coffee shop and wait for the lefties to show up, and make friends with them” would all be more helpful than “GO DO DIRECT ACTION”.

Lots of people are pretty isolated from leftist ideologies in the real world and their only connection to them may very well be online, and it’s easy to forget that someone asking “What can I do??” Might likely be best served by a gentle nudge in a much more productive direction.
