no but like what fundamentally is a statue of the buddha? does the person who made it have to have the intention of making a statue of buddha? or is it more situational? if it functions as a statue of buddha, then it is.
totally agree, its the worship which matters not the idol
my knowledge of buddhism is very slight, but do they really “worship” the idols? its kinda like christians with the cross, right? nobody is worshipping the cross explicitly, its just a reminder of the faith as a whole
Yeah, there’s like a saying, “If you ever meet the Buddha, kill them.” but that’s specifically zen Buddhism, I never went there or lived it for myself
Depends on the sect and all that. Chinese Buddhism tends to follow the pure land sect and from my very shallow reading into it it does seem a bit similar to christianity
