The first Norse settlers arrived in 986. Between 1350 and 1500 the settlements were abandoned for reasons that are still unknown.

There was no continuity between the Norse settlers and modern Danish colonialism but because the settlers were Norwegian the Norwegian, and later Danish, kings mainatned a claim on Greenland. Denmark. When Denmark lost Norway to Sweden in 1814 the Danes were allowed to keep Norway’s North Atlantic possessions, including Greenland, as a consolation prize.

Greenland is not white enough to be a state. It is majority indigenous. The population is also very small.

Maybe they think they can flood it with white settlers but there’s good material reasons why it is so sparsely populated.

I saw somewhere that the reason elite Chinese families send their children abroad to study is not (just) the usual story about western universities being “prestigious”.

The Chinese educational system is simply too meritocratic and doesn’t give the elite special treatment. If a Chinese student is not a top performer they will not get into a top university, no matter who their parents are. The western universities are often a plan B for the less brilliant children of the Chinese elite.

I just had the misfortune to watch Danish leader Mette Frederiksen on TV being asked whether the US was still Denmark’s “most important ally”, given the Greenland crisis. Part of her response was that somehow we owed a debt of gratitude to the yanks because they “liberated us during WWII”. Nobody else were mentioned, it was just the yanks.

The truth is that Denmark didn’t fight against the Nazis during WWII. More Danes died fighting for the Nazis than fighting against them.

I don’t like how every Western ghoul these days seems to be taking it for granted that Iran is just about to collapse. They are very confident and smug in their statements, more than usual.

Are they just huffing their own farts as usual, still high on the Maduro kidnapping, or is the current attempt at regime change more dangerous than previous ones?
