It has fuck all population and the US is the only presence there with military bases.

There is not going to be an invasion. It’s going to be like Crimea which was wholly occupied by the Russian military before they took it because they were leasing the port for their military use.

The US will just say “this is ours now” and dare anyone to come and force them out.

I haven’t talked about population at all I think?

There is not going to be an invasion

The title of the of the post is literally about trump ordering plans of an invasion to be made.

You’re assuming rationality by the chiefs of staff. Greenland is already under American military occupation. There is already an active base on Greenland as well as several inactive bases, which the us have an open invitation to activate at any time. Practically Greenland has already been invaded.

This doesn’t sound like it’s about practicality. They are talking about “drawing up invasion plans” IE. making some massive and impressive maneuver that Trump can shit his diaper about. Not just stepping out of the Thule airbase and saying “this is ours now”. Because that’s more or less de facto what they’ve already done and that hasn’t satisfied Trump.

De facto Greenland is and has been under American control for decades. Trump wants it to be De Jure, for some reason, and it seems like the only way he can think of doing that is by launching a large scale invasion or some sort of SMO which probably will involve naval landings or some shit like that.

Even if it doesn’t: If what trump wants is troops to march over Greenland, then that will be difficult because Greenland is large and cold and sparsely populated so it’s also sparsely urbanised. Few roads.

edit: If there is anything somewhat rational about this it might be a sort of carrot-or-stick situation where Trump threatens invasion in order to get Denmark and Greenland to agree to a purchase. But I don’t know how that would function in practicality
