I think the cooling point is something that people intuitively miss…

Yes space is fucking cold, but it’s also a vacuum so heat does not automatically get carried away by convection like it is on earth.

I think for many the general assumption is “if I’m not actively heating a space station, it will freeze”. But the opposite is true: you have to expend lots of energy to radiate off the heat that is produced by the electronics.

I’d wager that at least part of the reason is to keep their precious AI workloads safe from the unwashed masses.

Should their AI fantasies come true there’d be a looot of very disgruntled, very desperate people that might want to destroy data centers in the future
