  • The ndp statement is good enough only by comparison to the depravity of the Liberals and especially Conservative statements. They do point out oil being the motivating factor, but fail to link it to any broader critique of capitalism or even just the US. Instead they come out with the ol’ Trump-Putler axis of evil spin :

    Trump’s declaration that US oil companies are going to take over Venezuelan oil production reveals the true motive for this attack: seizure of some of the largest oil reserves in the world. Apologists for this blatant violation of the UN Charter by the US can spin all they want - but this is clearly illegal, hypocritical and dangerous.

    Maybe this reveals why Trump has been so hesitant to hold Putin to account for his invasion of Ukraine. The US can have no credibility upholding international law and the rights of nations when it blatantly violates those principles itself.

    Of all the historical situations and incidents for which to pull from to illustrate American hypocrisy, this is what they pick. Only being compared to Carney’s total nothing response, or Poillevre being a sockpuppet for American Republicanism, can the NDP look slightly ok.
