The Yankee Aggression against Venezuela: Between Hitler’s theory of Living Space and the Yankee’s Manifest Destiny. What do they have in common? Manuel Salazar | Lucha Jan. 5, 2026 | Dominican Republic | Translated for the Red Phoenix by Maurice B.
The theory of “Living Space” was a central geopolitical doctrine of Nazism, formulated by Adolf Hitler, that served to justify German territorial expansion through war, especially to Eastern Europe, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and other countries.
Hitler needed the natural resources of Eastern Europe for Germany’s development and its consolidation as an economic, political and military power.
The theory of Manifest Destiny was an ideological and political doctrine that emerged in the United States in the middle of the 20th Century, that held that the U.S. was predestined to expand territorially from the Atlantic to Pacific and to exert influence on the American continent.
This doctrine served to justify wars, seize territories and natural resources, and impose annexations.
This is exemplified in the United States intervention in Mexico (1846-1848) through which the Gringos appropriated more than half of the territory and natural resources of Mexico (California, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah).
All this with the same impudence, that these days Donald Trump says that he is “trying to recover the oil that Venezuela stole from the United States”.
Later, this imperialist theory evolved towards expansionism in the Caribbean, Central America and the Pacific.
In 1823, it was articulated with the Monroe Doctrine, “America for the Americans” and for that outcome, the United States carried out military interventions in the Caribbean and Central American, with direct influence in Cuba (the U.S. still has Guantánamo), the Dominican Republic, Haití, Puerto Rico and Panamá.
On one occasion in the Dominican Republic, the United States ordered a “study on the availability of natural resources on the island of Santo Domingo”, which was their primary interest.
That study resulted in a report titled “Santo Domingo, a country with a future”, signed by Otto Schoenrich, due to the enormous amount of minerals and natural resources discovered.
The Yankee military intervention of 1916, developed into a Gringo military colonial government, and created the conditions for later, in 1930, for the dictator Trujillo to assume the role of the guarantor of U.S. interests.
In this sense, Manifest Destiny was a rationale of United States military expansionism.
The Yankee aggression against Venezuela occurs at a time when capitalism in its imperialist phase shows its fascist face, in order to rebuild the accumulation of capital, in a context in which a new world reorganization is taking place with the emergence of China as a world power, and the BRICS Bloc as a counterweight to the financial order imposed by the Yankees after the Second World War.
Neoliberal globalization has exhausted itself as a policy of capital accumulation.
In addition, the North American economy continues to be affected by a continuous fall in the Average Rate of Profit which between 1950 and 2020 fell by (-) 25%. Moreover that trend has continued, and even gotten worse with the COVID-19 Pandemic.
All studies on the Average Rate of Profit indicate a decreasing trend in the fundamental enclaves of world capitalism in the long run; especially the United States of America, the European Union, and Japan.
Given that the Average Rate of Profit is the main indicator in the decisions of the capitalist for their investments and general politics; the fact that it has been declining for a long time, and the prospect are to maintain that decline, is a reason for multinational companies and the ringleaders of imperialism to try to reverse that trend.
American capital is desperately looking for new sources of accumulation, and in this situation it appeals to Donald Trump, the neo-fascist face, as an instrument of opportunity for American imperialism.
(Bertolt Brecht once said that Social-Democracy is the bourgeoisie when it is not scared; and Fascism is the same bourgeoisie when they are scared.)
Thus, the aggression against Venezuela is also a fascist escalation.
Just as Hitler defined Lebensraum in the environment of Europe and attacked Poland and other countries, and seized their natural resources; likewise, the return to the Monroe Doctrine by Trump and the Yankees, with its goal of “America for the Americans”, is the assumption of Latin America and the Caribbean as part of the Lebensraum or “Living Space” of Yankee Imperialism.
It is worth reiterating that, in historical conditions in which capitalism shows its fascist face to rebuild accumulation.
So the development and presence of and the political response to the aggression against Venezuela, and militarism in the Caribbean; must be observed from those two elements mentioned above: fascist escalation as a policy of Yankee imperialism; and determination of a “living space” by it, the competition to rearrange the accumulation of capital within a new economic, political, and military world reorganization in progress.
In this same vision, the attitude of servility and surrender of national sovereignty by the government of Luis Abinader and the PRM should be observed.
Thus, the defense of national sovereignty is combined with the struggle for more democratic rights and public freedoms, closing the way to fascistic conservatism; with the conquest of popular sovereignty.
