It’s the ideological superstructure. Fascists need to believe they are the greatest and the strongest and the smartest ect ect and so obviously they can just keep picking fights with everyone and win!

following months of naval strikes against narcoboats.

Fuck this article for giving even an ounce of credibility to this. Trump has spent the last several months murdering random people and I guarantee his strikes against Mexico will be exactly the same.

can’t wait to go into work and whenever the fact that we’re fucking invading mexico gets brought up my coworkers will just parrot whatever trumposphere narrative just like they did with Venezuela (did you know Maduro wasn’t even president? no I don’t know who juan guaido even is) and then act like I’m fucking Winston Smith brainfucked by the Ministry of Truth for telling them how fucking wrong and stupid they are

What a shit show. The nation of Mexico doesn’t have much of an ability to resist militarily but the Cartels Trump claims to be going after absolutely have the capability and inclination to retaliate violently on US soil

You got it the wrong way round. The Mexican military and navy absolutely has the means to resist in a protracted conflict and even strike back. The reason it doesn’t engage in out and out warfare with cartels is that these are integrated into rural and urban communities, are very decentralized and have no qualms about engaging in acts of terrorism to avoid capture.

Do not fall for the narrative that the cartels are in total control of Mexico, the firepower and manpower available to the state is overwhelmingly superior, but that matters very little when it comes to asymmetrical warfare. The juice ain’t worth the squeeze.

Even if that weren’t the case, narcos would be the first line of offense and sabotage for the US, they’re already terrorizing the Mexican people on a schedule that is eerily convenient to the US and have longstanding close links.

Are you suggesting a bunch of people notorious for kidnapping, murder, and intimidation won’t do those things?

Yes, they can’t do it to usa, thus it’s not relevant, they can’t easily bribe their way out of trouble. It’s same as some american mafia trying to wield intimidation against japan, doesn’t work, no leverage, no fucks given.

If you are under some intimidation blood feud logic, you can’t even find out who gave the order to launch drone strike, and then your only response to kill some dea agents, which invites only more response. They’ll eat their losses and go underground, if they are interacting with the foreign state. The relevant part are civilians hurt by this, and some part of patriotic sentiment, those might do something

Could spiral out of control if the cartels fight back, they can shock and inflict some serious casualties on American forces

Tho it’s likely their contacts with American intelligence will warn them beforehand and the US will just target civilians

  • Bread and circuses used to distract from stuff like this but now it is the circus. They have done such a great job of building up a genre around military action and imperialism since the 90s. Every lib who spent the Obama years writing woke CIA fanfic about invading Libya has led to this. President TV, of course, is going to ramp it up and remove all subtlety. Why produce fictional Jack Ryans when you can just go invade and film it for Paramount+?

I hope they don’t, but I think any sort of boots on the ground operation, and potentially airstrikes, would be a huge mistake on the regime’s part for too many reasons to list.
