Trump said in a social media post that Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland would face the tariff and that it would climb to 25% on June 1 if a deal is not in place for “the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland” by the United States.

Lol. Lmao, even.

Translation - “Trump threatens to raise costs for American voters unless these 8 countries support an illegal invasion”. Sounds like a winning strategy to me. /s

It’s going to fuck up Denmark’s economy somewhat too. The two big breadwinners are Maersk and Novo Nordisk, and they get money in part from the US market. I don’t know how tariffs on a shipping company would work though.

The official justification for why they can’t fight back will be that if they distract American forces defending Greenland, then China will use the opportunity to invade Taiwan.

      • unlike your western asses they haven’t been involved in a war directly for over 40 years, now that isn’t really achievement but when you realize most European countries helped in stuff like Afghanistan and in other cases Iraq

It tells you something or two about certain people

It’s the only country that has hit the goals set forth by the Paris climate agreement - and years ahead of time at that.

It’s the only country seriously working towards using renewable energy.

        It ended serfdom in Tibet.

It has a government with an approval rating above 90%

It took COVID seriously, raising alarms early and continuing to warn the international community, despite being mocked for doing so.

It has risen to be a major modern power without resorting to the imperialism of the west.

It is not warmongering unlike it’s rivals.

It respects international law, unlike its rivals.

China has more solar capacity than the rest of the world combined. Someone posted a photo essay of it a few days ago: https://e360.yale.edu/digest/china-renewable-photo-essay

I’ve watched lithium battery prices drop 90% in a decade. That’s Chinese manufacturing.

The US just bombed Caracas and kidnapped Maduro. Trump said the US will “run” Venezuela and maintain “a presence in Venezuela as it pertains to oil”. One country builds solar panels. The other invades countries for oil.

China is showing what it looks like to build your way out of the climate crisis. I respect that. The US is showing what it looks like to keep killing for the old economy.

They’re the second most powerful country in a world where the most powerful country is a rogue state that spends more on the military than the next 9 countries combined. You think Europe can rein in America on its own?

When was the last time China was at war and when was the last time the US was not at war?

Why do you think Europe wants to rein in the american continent?

Last time i checked the union made an agreement to sell cheese and meat in south america xd

Why do you think i respect countries according to their military power?

This no game of quartet. In fact i respect a country that works towards deescalation.

My money is still solidly on the EU only using their troops to surpress local protests against the Yanks, who will land in a big show of an “invasion” that will culminate in a flag planting photo op that may very kill us all from pure cringe.

It would be so incredible if the EU and US tore each other down through their interimperialist dick measuring. Unfortunately I just dont think Europe has the balls to fight back or stand up for itslef in any meaningful way before rolling over to tongue polish US boots again.

Maybe controversial, but I would honestly give critical support to European nations that want to free themselves from Washingtons influence and become truly independent.

That said, I dont think the political class in Europe has much of a spine and the European continent is sadly, in all but name a vassal of the United States.

Most of the ruling class in Europe is so embedded in the US order that any change that occurs will never be of their accord or led by them.

A world where European leaders kicked out the US troops and bases from their countries in opposition to this would be a better one than this, but in our unfortunate reality those in those position would never get to those positions if they were the had the chutzpah to do so, or they would be blocked by the equally cucked ‘opposition’ or military

I think the US coup of Whitlam’s Australian government (NATOpedia link) in the 70’s gives a playbook of how lawfare etc would be used to regime change against any ‘democratically elected’ ‘western’ leader who stood up in a meaningful way to the empire

Everyone is waiting on the Supreme Court to issue their ruling on the legality of the tariffs. They’ll find a way to kick the can down the road, or rule is such a way no one knows what the hell is going on and both sides claiming victory.

The US already occupies Greenland, Denmark is under the auspices of the broader American Empire, and any shipping control or resources extraction would heavily benefit American corporations or at least American oligarchs who own massive chunks of any European company that might benefit too.

Like materially the US already has all this already, but in a stable way that doesn’t undermine the empire itself.

The truth has to be way more stupid and criminal, like he literally thinks adding a big chunk of map is prestigious and he’s being egged on by orbiting grifters who see the opportunity to personally enrich themselves at the empire’s expense.

Prior to his presidential campaign, Trump was best known for being the rich guy who put his name on everything. Of course he’s not going to go along with a complex political status quo where Greenland is a de facto asset of the United States through corporate proxies and an unacknowledged vassal state. He wants America’s name on it.

In Soviet North Cuba, after attempting annex other islands, the dictator would have the unilateral power to announce tariffs and other sanctions. This shows how weak and ineffective their “democraticly elected congress” was and is.
