I’ve got a disc burner and just got a bunch of blank DVDs from work.
Any tips for burning these? I know that if I drop an h265 mkv on one of these it would look great, but a standard player would have issues playing it back.

Keep in mind the lifespan of burned DVDs isn’t great. Like if you’re backing up stuff, don’t make it your only copy. Can’t begin to tell you how much stuff I lost over the years because burned DVDs were going bad before they even faded from popularity.
They have these more expensive ones called M-Disc which are supposed to be longer lasting
Admittedly, I am out of touch with what the current offerings are. I don’t think I’ve burned a disc in more than 10 years now.

Don’t ever burn at over 8x speed if you want it to work in a DVD player, I used to always do 4x. I also used to do encoding into a DVD compatible format separately in Handbrake instead of within whatever burning software I was using.
Definitely wouldn’t have thought of this.
I think Makemkv and/or handbrake have the option to make it playable like a standard dvd otherwise it looks like a data disc rather than video
